René Rickabaugh paints with a virtuoso's skill and imagination. His astoundingly intricate paintings become objects of wonder, tempting the viewer into a place of delicate beauty, lush color, and almost scientific precision. The amazing detail Rickabaugh brings to the images of decadent cakes and luscious fruits in his latest work, opens up a mouthwatering world of elegance and wonder. As counterpoint, a series of paintings of birds will also be part of this show. For these he utilizes a technique uniquely his own, in which he paints with watercolor on paper, which is then embedded in delicate layers of epoxy resin, creating work that is simultaneously ephemeral and sculptural.
Portland based artist René Rickabaugh has exhibited his work since 1972 in numerous shows, including exhibitions in Portland, Seattle and New York. He received his BFA from the Pacific Northwest College of Art, where he also taught from 1984 to 1987. He has had one-person exhibitions at the Portland Art Museum, the University of Oregon Art Museum in Eugene, and the Allan Stone Gallery in New York. His work is in many private and public collections. Concurrent with his exhibition at Laura Russo Gallery, his work will also be part of InterGALACTIC, an international invitational exhibition at the Dunedin Fine Art Center in Dunedin, Florida.
