Russo Lee Gallery is pleased to present Infandous by Michael Brophy. This exhibition explores themes of environmental change and human impact in the face of overwhelming forces. The title itself—derived from the Latin ‘infandus,’ meaning ‘unspeakable’—sets the tone for this new body of work. The artist’s ongoing commitment to environmental dialogue is on full display in this powerful exhibit comprised of eighteen paintings. Brophy captures both the beauty and tragedy of the natural world as it faces the profound effects of climate change, human destruction, and the complicated realities of our modern surroundings.

Michael Brophy, a 1985 graduate of the Pacific Northwest College of Art, where he also taught, has showcased his work in numerous solo and group exhibitions. Brophy’s work is part of various public and private collections, including the Portland Art Museum, the Seattle Art Museum, Microsoft, the Multnomah County Library, the OSU Library in Corvallis, and the City of Portland. His public art commissions include prominent locations such as Portland’s City Hall; the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center in Wasco, OR; Mt. Rainier High School in Des Moines, WA; and the newly constructed Multnomah County Courthouse in Portland, OR. Brophy has been honored with a Pollock/Krasner Foundation Grant and a Fellowship for Individual Artists from the Regional Arts & Culture Council.
