Press Release

For the month of October, Russo Lee Gallery exhibits Overlands by invited artist Gabriel Liston.  During a 2022 railway trip across the country, Liston describes staring out the window and drawing.  He kept his watercolors open and painted a handful of the penciled pages while still on the train.  The body of work for this exhibition is based on the notebook sketches made during that time.

Opening Reception | Thursday, October 5, 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Artist Talk | Saturday, October 14, 11:00 a.m.

Gabriel Liston was born in San Antonio, Texas, raised in Western Colorado, and currently lives in Portland, Oregon.  He studied at Colorado Mountain College, and the Denver Art Students League.  In 1995, he received his BFA in Painting from the Pacific Northwest College of Art, Portland Oregon.  Liston’s work has been part of numerous group and solo exhibitions since 1994.  He has received many awards, including the Regional Arts and Culture Council Project Grant in 2014.  Liston’s work is part of several private and public collections, including OHSU, Portland, Oregon and the Toledo Museum of Art, Toledo, Ohio.
