Press Release

Russo Lee Gallery is pleased to present It Cut a Sky by Lisa Jarrett. This exhibition is a continuation of the artist’s ongoing series Migration Studies. Featuring new print editions from her time at Crow’s Shadow, as well as mixed media pieces, Jarrett states that, “this body of work connects my interest in tracing lost histories and homelands to the Beauty Supply store as a critical space of Black cultural production with its own set of aesthetics, desires, and complications.”

Opening Reception | Thursday, November 2nd, 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Artist Talk | Saturday, November 11th, 11:00 a.m.

Lisa Jarrett is an artist and educator in Portland, Oregon. She received her BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology, Rochester, NY, and her MFA from the University of Montana, Missoula, MT. She is Associate Professor of Community and Context Arts at Portland State University’s School of Art + Design. She is co-founder and co-director of KSMoCA (Dr. MLK Jr School Museum of Contemporary Art), the Harriet Tubman Middle School Center for Expanded Curatorial Practice in NE Portland, OR, and the artists collective Art 25: Art in the 25th Century.
