Press Release

For the month of November, Russo Lee Gallery exhibits Recent Works on Paper by Elizabeth Malaska. Celebrated for her exceptional and compelling work, Malaska has gained critical acclaim for exploring the place of the female body in a range of art historical contexts. This exhibition features a variety of subjects, often drawing influence from mythology, traditional painting, and Malaska’s own lived experience. Studies, for the artist’s forthcoming solo exhibition at the Seattle Art Museum, are also included in this original body of work.

Opening Reception | Thursday, November 2nd, 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Elizabeth Malaska earned her MFA from the Pacific Northwest College of Art, after receiving a BFA from the California College of the Arts, San Francisco, California. Malaska is the recipient of numerous awards and grants, including a Painters and Sculptors Grant from the Joan Mitchell Foundation, the Hallie Ford Fellowship, the Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, and most recently, the 2022 Betty Bowen Award. Her work is in the permanent collections of the Portland Art Museum, The Harold and Arlene Schnitzer Collection in Portland, Oregon, the Schneider Museum of Art at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, Oregon, and the Hallie Ford Museum.
