Press Release

For the month of July, Russo Lee Gallery exhibits Inner Child by Anne Siems. This new body of work connects the artist back to an earlier series of paintings in which children are the main characters. Each painting is composed of acrylic on wood panel, with figures that are delicately rendered and embraced by nature. Elements of dreams, fairy tales, and the artist’s own childhood all play a significant role in the creation of the new works. Siems states that, “As with all my work, it comes from a visceral place. I like to leave lots of space for the viewer’s individual experience”.

Opening Reception | Wednesday, July 3rd, 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Anne Siems was born in Berlin, Germany and spent her formative years in Buenos Aires. She returned to Germany and received her MFA in 1991 from Hochschule der Kunste in Berlin. Siems then settled in Seattle, Washington, where she currently lives and works. She has exhibited in the United States since the mid-1980s, at galleries in Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle. Her work is included in the collections of the Arkansas Art Center in Little Rock, the Boise Art Museum, the Tacoma Art Museum, Microsoft, University Hospital in Seattle and the University of Washington.
